EAL Program Support

The equine-assisted learning support team works with the students and other team members during Horsemanship 101 and Adaptive Riding sessions.  EAL program support staff focus on student safety and assistance which allows the equine specialist in mental health and learning optimum time to focus on the student's goals, outcomes, and assessments during each session. 
 

EAL support staff options include horse-handler or side-walker. 
 

This position requires that you can bend, squat, walk unassisted, lift your arms for at least 30 minutes, are a good listener, patient, enjoy activities with children of all needs and requirements, and communicate well with others.
 

All THP volunteers must undergo a background check and are required to strictly follow THP guidelines.

Events and Fundraising

Members are responsible for fundraising events in various roles.

 

This position requires organization skills, creative ideas, construction, acquiring volunteers, knowledgeable of THP and programs, good communication and telephone skills, leads are responsible for reporting costs and revenue rendered from the fundraiser to the Treasurer and THP BOD by written report through Google Docs or another prearranged source. 

 

Members are asked to attend free classes provided by The Grays Harbor Community Foundation at Grays Harbor College when the class is a helpful resource for your role.

Feed and Care Team

Team members are responsible for feeding, stall cleaning, and other care needs for all THP horses.  Volunteers wishing to join this team will first be assessed by our equine leads. Horses are very intuitive so for the safety and well being of our volunteers and our horses, we require specific training and evaluation before being assigned to this team.  Members sign up for weekly or daily slots once approved

This position requires the ability to lift and move 60lbs (hay bales and feed sacks), comfort in close proximity to horses, able to determine when a horse is upset, fearful, evasive, choking, colicing, injured, or is under stress, clean manure from stalls and/or run areas safely using a manure fork and wheelbarrow, remove or add stall bedding pellets as needed, be available to commit to the days and times signed up for, keep account of inventory used or needed with feed & care​.

Volunteer Clerical Support

Members will assist our volunteer coordinator with documents, phone calls and possible processing of volunteers.

 

Requirements include excellent phone etiquette, communicating with clarity, consideration and patience with everyone including students, families, and other volunteers, create, print out and/or delivery of documents. At times there is a high rate of communications needed and timing may be of importance.

Janitorial team

The THP facility has many windows and spaces that need cleaning on a daily and weekly basis.

 

This position is responsible for window washing, sweeping/blowing of the inside of the barn, cleaning bathroom, replenishing paper towels and other incidentals throughout the inside of the barn and viewing room, keeping inventory of products used and those items needing replenished.
